Aquatic Safety

Aquatic Safety

The La Trinidad Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) plays a very important role in keeping the community safe, especially when it comes to water-related activities. One of their key efforts is promoting Aquatic Safety Education. These programs help teach people how to stay safe in and around water, which is very important in a place with rivers, swimming areas, and the risk of floods during heavy rains.

One of the main goals of the MDRRMO’s aquatic safety programs is to prevent drowning and water accidents. They do this by offering training sessions such as Water Safety and Swim and Survive. These are often given to students, teachers, barangay officials, and volunteers. Through these activities, people learn important skills like how to float, how to help someone who is drowning, and how to stay calm in emergency situations.

Water Safety

The La Trinidad Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) conducts Water Safety Training to help communities stay safe during water-related emergencies such as floods and strong river currents, especially during the rainy season.

The training teaches participants about swimming safety, the proper use of life vests, and how to stay safe in and around bodies of water. It is attended by barangay personnel, volunteers, and local residents who are often exposed to water hazards. By learning these safety practices, the community becomes more aware and prepared to avoid accidents.

Through this program, the MDRRMO promotes a safer La Trinidad by raising awareness and encouraging responsible behavior around water.

Swim and Survive

The La Trinidad Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) conducts the Swim and Survive Program to teach children and adults basic swimming and water safety skills. This program helps prevent drowning, especially during the rainy season when rivers and other water bodies become dangerous.

Participants learn how to float, swim, and stay calm in the water. They are also taught how to recognize water hazards and what to do in case of emergencies. The program is often held in schools or barangays and is guided by trained instructors to make sure everyone learns safely.

Through the Swim and Survive Program, the MDRRMO helps build a safer and more prepared community by giving people the skills they need to protect themselves around water.

Inland/Swift Water Rescue

Inland Water Rescue refers to emergency operations carried out in non-coastal water environments such as rivers, creeks, ponds, and flood-prone areas. In La Trinidad, Benguet, this includes waterways like the rivers and various irrigation canals that pose risks during heavy rains or typhoons. These rescue operations are essential for saving individuals who may be trapped or swept away, especially in low-lying or densely populated areas. Inland water rescue in this region is made more challenging by the mountainous terrain, strong currents, and sudden changes in weather conditions.

Water Search and Rescue (WASAR)

WASAR teaches essential skills such as swimming with rescue equipment, using ropes for rescues, operating rescue boats, and searching for missing persons in floodwaters.

This training is important for La Trinidad due to its vulnerability to flash floods, especially during the rainy season. By equipping barangay responders and volunteers with these life-saving skills, the MDRRMO ensures that local teams can act quickly and safely in flood situations, improving the chances of saving lives and minimizing harm.

The WASAR program strengthens La Trinidad’s emergency response by training barangays and agencies in water rescues, building a more prepared and resilient community capable of handling water-related disasters effectively.

Enhancing Awareness, Building Capacity, Promoting Preparedness

The municipality aligns its disaster risk reduction and management efforts with Republic Act No. 10121, which highlights the importance of awareness, capacity-building, and preparedness through trainings to strengthen community resilience.
